The five foot high Among the trees, winter sun (http://hendersonsmith.co.uk/among_trees_winter_sun.html ) was memorable for me in that working on this scale would not have been possible in my previous studio but has become so at my new location, The Lanherne Studio in St Columb.
This piece developed from a woodland walk on Christmas Day 2013. It was the winter solstice sunshine that was the key factor. The way that light came in at a low angle, enhancing both the central upright form and the bloom of early buds in the tree-tops beyond is what caught my eye. I enjoyed the resulting range of warm hues against the powdery blue sky beyond. It felt good to take more space to let these colours sing!
