Thoughts on a recent canvas: Saplings and deep dark woods

Saplings and dark deep woods.

This piece represented for me the hopes associated with our intended move to St Columb when we first chose our new place. The bungalow we found had already been called Berkana by a previous owner. The name turned out to be a Norse rune meaning birch and apparently signifying such things as fruition and ripening, qualities we definitely want to manifest in our autumnal years. So the birch sapling shown in this picture gave me the opportunity to celebrate such aspirations through the painting process.
