One aspect of the studio move that my wife Gabrielle and I intend to make as soon as possible is that a good deal of sorting out and clearance is needed beforehand. This involves opening up hidden piles of old work then photographing and packing some of it that we’ll be keeping or finding homes for. For me this has led to the unusual step of creating a whole new picture index page on my website. This Early Work page ( http://www.hendersonsmith.co.uk/early_work.html ) already features eleven pieces and several more will be joining them over the coming months.
One particular rediscovery that I’ve been excited about is an ambitious piece from 1972 that I’m now calling Of Human Kindness ( http://www.hendersonsmith.co.uk/of_human_kindness_3d_reconstruction.html ). Its digital reconstruction inspires me to want to re-stretch and re-assemble the eighteen triangular canvases that make it up as a free standing mural (the original canvas stretcher bars no longer exist) but that’s a project for some future date when a suitable site can be found! Meanwhile a print of images of this piece is available through the above link.
